Diverse and entertaining. Lots of interesting things to see. Competent and articulate guide. Punctual and kept events moving along.

I had paid for a tour including round trip airfare from Honolulu to Hilo, a helicopter tour of the volcanoes, and a guided ground tour of the volcanoes on the island. Due to weather conditions, the helicopter portion was canceled, and we only did the guided ground tour before flying back to Honolulu. The ground tour was good, although contacting the tour operator to let them know the helicopter had been canceled was problematic. The helicopter operator promised a full refund from the tour company for the fee paid for the helicopter portion. After discovering the prices for the airfare and how much would be refunded for the helicopter tour, I discovered that the ground tour prices (and presumably their administrative fees) were outrageous. If you want to tour the big island, get there yourself (Hawaiian Air has reasonable rates from Oahu); book a helicopter tour directly with the providing tour company, and a guided tour with Dynamic Tour Hawaii separately (if the prices are reasonable).

This is an excellent all day trip. The guide was extremely knowledgeable and personable. The highlight is seeing the active volcano at night with orange glowing lava, very cool to see and the best reason to take this tour. The group on the tour was only 5 in number so it was truly personalized service. Other points of interest were waterfalls, walking through old lava fields and lava tubes, the Mauna Loa macadamia nut orchards and visitor center bought lots at their store, an orchid establishment, the Japanese gardens loved the Banyan trees, visiting Big Island Candy for free samples of candy and Kona coffee bought lots there too and visiting beautiful beaches. Not physically strenuous so the tour is suitable for anyone.
