There are so many things I enjoy about this experience ... being out on open ocean, the seabreeze, the views of coastal Dana Point, Laguna Beach & Catalina Island, seeing whales & dolphins up close! It's refreshing! Over the years I have been on 4 or 5 of Dana Wharf's 2 hour whale watch tours and have never been disappointed. Obviously no business can ever guarantee that you will see a whale but I have been lucky every time! Today I saw a gray whale come up out of the water vertically. First time I have ever seen that. The guide's narration is informative and interesting. The other employees on the boat have always been friendly & pleaseant. They have some type of food service on the bigger boats but I have never tried it. Tourist Tips: * A little online research can inform you on the best times of year to see whales. Dana Wharf's website also lists a daily sighting count. * Bring extra clothing. It will always be colder & windier out on the water vs. on shore especially during the winter whale migration season.

We have gone whale watching a number of times out of Dana Point. Usually we would see a few dolphins and got up close and personal with a blue whale. This trip (3/18) we caught up to three migrating gray whales and they put on a fluke show for us. We hung out with them for close to 30 minutes and then it was time to head back. On the return trip we cam across a pod of dolphins, at least 20-25 and they stayed with us until it was time to head to port. A fellow passenger advised us there are frequently super deals on Groupon which makes this an affordable way to enjoy an afternoon on the Pacific.

Very informative and interesting couple of hours the crew were helpful and knowledgeable and the captain ensured we had the maximum chance for seeing as much as possible and we did see whales, dolphins and seal lions
