The experience of watching 40 foot (12 meter) whales from a 24 foot (7 meter) Zodiac raft is something you'll never forget! Following Hawaiian Marine Park laws of stopping at least 100 yards (90 meters) away from these magnificent animals, you get a close up look at the migrating humpback whales. It is not uncommon for them to be curious about the raft and come right under the boat!

I found Captain Zodiak on TripAdvisor for 6 of us looking for excitement and adventure in a half day snorkeling trip! Well we all agree that Captain Zodiak delivered just that! Our captain and first mate were Jack and Chris. The company has a total pirate theme so we obviously called our captain Jack Sparrow. The 13 passengers boarded the Zodiak which is like those used by the US Navy Seals. It's bigger and badder than a banana boat. We sailed off onto the choppy waters off the coast of the Big Island of Hawaii towards our destination at high speeds. It was thrilling and exciting, and that's just the ride! The advantage to a smaller boat over those big catamarans is the personal and customized adventure. We stopped several times along the way to watch whales and dolphins. The pods of dolphins swam right alongside us and were even riding the waves off our boat. When we reached our destination, we were in snorkeling heaven. It's a marine sanctuaryso it's protected and all that jazz. The fish and corral are magnificent! Before leaving the bay (heck I don't remember the name other that it starts with a K and has many vowels and consenants following) our Captain and First mate told us the gruesome tale of Captain Cooks demise. You will have to take the cruise yourself to find out what happened to Captain Cook on the Big Island of Hawaii. After a lunch of turkey sandwiches, beverages, chips, fruit and cookies we headed back for the harbor. We had many stops on the way with interesting facts about the folklore and geology of the island. Especially the lava caves and tubes. I would highly recommend the Captain Zodiac for those looking for adventure over comfort and excellent personal friendly service! Beware the ride is very bumpy and wet. You may feel like you might fall off the side but it is quite safe and fun. G'day mates!

When we got on the boat, the captain said, "what do you want to see." and several people siad Dolphins. He said we'd be seeing them in about 3 minutes and he was right. Many junpimg, spinnujing playing dolphins about 12 feet from the boat. As we were enjoying the show he got a call from another captain. A mothe r whale and her calf had been spotted. We quickly moved to the next area. I am not ashamed to admit that I got tears in my eyes as we watched a mother Blainville's beaked whale push her calf to the surface so it could breath. How could we top that? On to an excellent snorkeling site and then an adventure filled ride back home. I highly recommend Captain Zodiac for there knowlege and skill. It was the best excursion that we did during the 2 weeks we were in Hawaii.
