We arrived at the Portola Hotel and stumbled across these crazy looking cars and by coincidence their office was on the side of the hotel. The manager was super friendly and explained all details of the cars (basically it’s a throttle and a brake leaver). You’re given a sat-nav with a pre-programmed route for an hour which was easy to follow (although the audio was difficult to hear over the engine noise), but simple to follow with a map as a back up. The cars are great fun, and despite looking like a couple of complete dorks, we had a total blast and couldn’t stop laughing the whole hour. I’d totally recommend this trip. It’s a great way to see part of this amazing town and the views are stunning. There’s plenty of opportunities for photos.

My friend and I had a fun time on the Sea Tour. The cars were comfortable for our mature bodies for an hour. The view of the ocean was amazing and the GPS system was easy to follow. My only challenge was about the 2 mile need for street driving in downtown Monterey to get to/from the destination of ocean drive. Then once on ocean drive, you are driving in regular street traffic. I thought we'd be driving along some "sand drive", but upon seeing the area, there is no such thing. It was fun to cruise along this beautiful stretch of land in a little open air vehicle.

Hello! Unfortunately the engine's can't handle the sand so we have to keep our cars on the road. Glad you still had fun!

So I found a Groupon for the Sea Cars and decided sure why not!? First it was fairly difficult to find the little office that they operate out of. Then once we found the office the door was locked with a sign saying to call a number because they're helping a customer get a car for a tour. I called the number and the lady who answered seemed annoyed that I had some questions and that we were 15 min earlier than our appointment. She hung up the phone and came to the front door, as she was not helping anyone get a car. Once we started looking over the paperwork it stated that if the car is in an accident that we would be liable for $11,900.00. I asked if my car insurance would cover and she said no because it's considered a motorcycle. Then she said if someone hits you they're insurance will cover it and I said only if they have insurance themselves...she seemed annoyed that I was not very thrilled that I could be liable for the entire price of a new vehicle. They offer a $500 insurance plan for $12, not sure why their plan doesn't offer the full amount. So we took off in our Sea Car and had a fairly enjoyable time riding down the cost line to Asilomar State Beach. We stopped in 1 place for about 10 min. For the price of the Groupon it was worth it, but I would be UPSET if I had paid full price for the customer service and the tour.
