This is the second time my husband and I have done the tour. Last time we were delighted to trade the manufactured experiences of Orlando's parks for the real Florida one. Today's trip was no different.
Once you enter the water, aside from an occasional airplane overhead, you have no idea you're in one of the busiest tourist areas of the country. Paddling Shingle Creek is as laid back as you can get. Water like glass surrounded by trees that are hundreds of years old with glimpses of birds and water life. Joshua, our guide, was attentive to our paddling needs and a wealth of knowledge not just about the flora and fauna of the area, but also full of stories about Florida history and much more.
Since there were just 3 on the tour, he suggested we might enjoy going a little farther into the "adventure" section of the creek and we all opted to do so. A bit more challenging to navigate, but an experience I'll remember for our taste of what Old Florida exploration must have been like.
Thanks for a marvelous morning, Joshua. We'll probably come back next time for a third trip.
