Charleston Outdoor Adventures

Before departing from our private launching area on Bowens Island, your group will participate in a brief instructional session, safety discussion, and an explanation on how to use the foot driven steering system on your kayaks. During your 2-hour guided eco-tour, you will explore Charleston’s iconic tidal creeks and saltmarsh. While paddling through the estuarine waters behind Folly Beach, your local guide will introduce you to the area's wide variety of wildlife. Keep your eyes peeled for dolphins gracefully playing and feeding, wading birds exploring the shallows, crabs and invertebrates crawling on mudflats, and pelicans diving! Your guide will also discuss the value and functions of the area's major ecosystems.

One of the best kayak eco tours that I have been on! Josh was an awesome tour guide. We saw a sea turtle and dolphins ended up joining us at the end! We will definitely be going back to COA

My wife and I recently traveled to Charleston for an anniversary getaway, and were very excited to kayak the marshes in and around Folly Island. COA did NOT disappoint. They were first class from start to finish, and we got more than we bargained for. I'm actually a former kayak eco tour guide myself, so I was naturally a bit skeptical going into this excursion. As soon as we pulled up though, all of my reservations went out the window. The staff took great care of us. They got us checked in and on the water in less than 10 minutes. They recommended we paddle out to a particular channel because for the best odds at seeing Dolphins. And low and behold, we spotted a whole pod of dolphins right where they told us to go. We spent the next 2 hours paddling around with a group of dolphins watching them fish and interact with one another. It was a very cool experience! A memory we definitely won't forget. We only opted to rent kayaks. However I'm sure their guided tours are great! After this experience, we'll definitely be booking one of the guided tours next time we're in Charleston. Thanks for a great experience!

We had such an amazing time on our 3 hour marsh tour with Jake. I was a little unsure about how this tour would be-- it was a hot day and I'm not very outdoorsy. But, oh my goodness, this was by far my favorite part of our visit to Charleston. We went out on the 9 am tour to avoid the hottest part of the day. Our tour started with a very helpful and quick tutorial on kayaking procedure (which made me feel at ease because I've never kayaked before). It was a small group of 3 people and 1 tour guide. Jake made sure to take the tour at a pace we were comfortable with and was very flexible, encouraging, and knowledgeable. The great thing about this tour is that it is calm water so I was able to pick up maneuvering very quickly. There is so much to see, but the beauty of this activity is that each tour is a unique experience, based on what animals are around and what interests the group. We got to paddle within 10 feet of dolphins, we learned about the intricacies of local fishing practices, saw tons of birds, and just had a great time. Be sure to wear shoes that can get wet/dry quickly, especially if you have other plans for the rest of the day. And bring some water; we took a few breaks to chat, learn, and hydrate. I wasn't sure how this tour would be when we booked, but I'm so glad we did! It was amazing!
