Use your general admission ticket for entry to the La Brea Tar Pits and Museum. Here, Ice Age fossils are being excavated right in the middle of L.A. Enjoy this truly unique attraction by experiencing all that it has to offer. Marvel at its outdoor Lake Pit, oozing with bubbling tar; travel back in time among the prehistoric plants of its Pleistocene Garden; and explore its active dig sites, where it seems excavators uncover something new daily. The museum itself features its own wealth of offerings. Scope out the fossils of prehistoric mammoths, saber-toothed cats, wolves, and ground sloths, or take an opportunity to watch paleontologists working in the Fossil Lab on their most recent finds. For a wonderful overview, reserve a spot on the Excavator Tour, free with admission. This guided tour delves into the history of the tar pits and explains just how so many massive creatures ended up stuck here. You’ll also visit the Fossil Lab, Observation Pit and Project 23, where excavators are continuously helping to unlock the mysteries of prehistoric L.A.

The Tar Pits are a wonderful place to introduce kids to dinosaurs and paleontology. We visit here every several years and it never gets old. It’s always amazing to see the pits where so many bones and fossils have been found over the decades – and continue to provide new discoveries to scientists working at the facility. If you have the time, a theater inside usually runs a film which we’ve seen on past visits and is recommended. We have not yet had an opportunity to visit with scientists for a deeper explanation of their work and would be interested in exploration that option in the future. Picnic benches are available at the bottom of the hill – so if you bring a picnic lunch, there’s several places to enjoy your meal. If you have littles, many enjoy rolling sideways from the hilltop at the top of the museum area. There’s a free bonus play item. Plan at least one hour for your visit.

Very interesting findings. The history of la brea pits, the museum is very friendly to adults and kids aljke. The park surrounding the museum is pleasant to walk in in goid weayher

La Brea Tar Pits isn't a big place, and in my opinion not as good as Natural History Museum. It is however, worth at least one visit! I love dinosaurs and prehistoric museums. If you do too, you should see La Brea Tar Pits!
