Marvel at its outdoor Lake Pit, oozing with bubbling tar; travel back in time among the prehistoric plants of its Pleistocene Garden; and explore its active dig sites, where it seems excavators uncover something new daily. The museum itself features its own wealth of offerings. Scope out the fossils of prehistoric mammoths, saber-toothed cats, wolves, and ground sloths, or take an opportunity to watch paleontologists working in the Fossil Lab on their most recent finds. I've had children in college or graduate school in the LA area for more than a decade and always meant to come here while visiting them. The youngest one just graduated and so I seized the opportunity ... and I'm so glad I did! What an interesting place! The exhibits are fascinating (particularly the one that lets you try to pull a weight out of the tar), the movie is well worth the small price, and the neighborhood is great too. I was disappointed that no excavations were happening and the construction around the modern art museum is frustrating but I would highly recommend a stop here if you're even remotely interested in the subject.

Let me preface this by admitting bias. I am an Anthropology major and loved every bone, tooth, and skull in the museum. If you're interested, it'll knock your socks off. If you go expecting dinosaurs, you will be sorely disappointed. DIfferent era. Great 3D movie that explained the Ice Age nicely. I wanted to buy everything in the gift shop. Outside exhibition is underwhelming but the fact that you can see and smell oil seeping up through the ground adds to the authenticity of it all. Ongoing excavation area is extremely interesting. Well worth the price of admission...for ME!

This museum is fascinating and the exhibits are so well curated. I was engrossed in the stories told through the visuals and information. The outside exhibits (free of charge) are also amazing and well marked. Highly recommend to adults and kids alike who are interested in ice age and prehistoric earth!
