We (family of 5) had a wonderful time on this tour. It was a privilege to be that close to the pair of humpback whales that our captain (JJ) maneuvered us close to. Our onboard guide, Isaiah, provided excellent commentary throughout the tour, and he helpfully answered everyone's questions about what we were experiencing.
Tips/insights: It takes about one hour to get out to the whale-watching location, and likewise to return to Monterey; so you'll have roughly an hour on-station to see the whales. The weather was a little rough the day we went; maybe that was an unusual circumstance, but I would nevertheless recommend wearing waterproof clothing. (Our boat had a cabin that some passengers took refuge in, but it was pretty tight quarters.) Isaiah and the third member of the team, Kevin, helped a passenger who was seasick. Again, maybe the weather we experienced was unusual, but I would recommend bringing something to combat seasickness if you think you might be prone to it.
All in all it was a great experience, due in no small measure to Capt. JJ, Isaiah, and Kevin. I will do whale-watching again the next time I'm in Monterey, and it will be with Discovery Whale Watch.
