A rare opportunity to experience the beauty of nature. Beautiful at night...bioluminescence in the water, stars in the sky. Brewin (sorry if I've misspelled), our guide, was knowledgeable and fun! I read the reviews about the bugs...we had no problems. Loaded up with bug spray as recommended and never gave the mosquitoes a second thought. Overall - a great experience.

To start, this activity is quite average and not worth it. Driving through the night into a completely dark area with no indications whatsoever is really dangerous and you might not get there. Second of all, the mosquito situation. This company suggests to spray yourself with mosquito repellent and to wear swimsuit. How ironic. Instructors are wearing long sleeves shirts and pants. Mosquitos are present in VERY HIGH quantity on this beach and river you are going to be literally EATEN alive. While turning on my lamp torch I could see these HUGE bugs and mosquitos flying around and biting me as if I am a T-bone steak. We blame the company for not advising to wear pants, long sleeves, a mask (yes a mask!). Finally, the cherry on top: LICES. These little evil blood coloured minions invaded our car when we opened the doors of our car to leave this place and covered our bodies with bites for five consecutive days following this activity. This has cost us $60 at CVS pharmacy in order to calm down the itching, eliminate the lices from our car and home (some of them entered our clothes and entered our home). My wife and sister were sick for few days. The number of bites due to these mosquitos and lices is incredible. I think I got bitten over 70 times all over my body. It was NON STOP NO BREAK. Find pictures in the gallery. I think this is a very high price for an activity that consists of touching water and getting a bit of glowy light underneath.

Wow, this is quite a description of the insects that one might encounter on the Wildlife Refuge. To clarify, there are no "lices" out there. However, there are No-See-Ums. They can be quite pesky. We always recommend people use mineral oil, (baby oil - $1 at the Dollar Tree) or Skin So Soft repellent for those. Also to be clear - THERE IS NOWHERE ON OUR WEBSITE THAT RECOMMENDS SWIMSUITS. We NEVER recommend swimsuits. We assume you read this misinformation about swimsuits on a similar review, but there is nowhere in BK Adventure's information that wearing a swimsuit is recommended. Sorry to hear that the insects bothered you. We are diligent about letting people know that in Florida, around water, during the summer - that is what one should expect. It is common sense. Not everyone has the same reaction to the mosquitoes that you had, we recommend guests who are particularly sensitive to insect bites do not do this tour in summer. Our FAQ about this tour is very specific that there will be mosquitoes. Some nights there are almost none, others there are many. That is really beyond our control. However, please do feel free to email us and let us know how we could have better communicated that mosquitoes would be present. We definitely want everyone to have a great time. We loved it! We saw the bioluminescence, glowing jellyfish, fish swimming and glowing in the water, glowing waves. It was amazing! The tours are guided so you dont get lost in the dark. All guides and supporting personnal were courteous, knowledgable and helpful. I defenetely recommend this tour.
