This living exhibit features hundreds of free-flying butterflies, typically more than 50 species at any given time, birds from around the world and an assortment of other animals including turtles and fish to experience firsthand. Skilled interpretive staff are available to help answer questions and provide visitors with a personal and highly engaging experience.

Visitors to Powell Hall will encounter signature permanent exhibition halls that explore the state’s unique habitats and rich cultural history, including information about some of Florida's early Native peoples. Visitors may view a Calusa Indian welcoming ceremony and mammoth and mastodon skeletons from the last ice age.

My sister and I went to the Butterfly Rainforest recently and we had just the BEST TIME! We loved learning about all the different kinds of butterflies and their life cycles. The rainforest area was so interesting and relaxing to walk thru too viewing the waterfalls and small birds while all the different kinds of butterflies just fluttered around. The staff there were so helpful and easy to talk to. It was so worth it to go and see. If you haven't been there you have to go! We loved going thru the gift shop and did it before we started our tour, so much to look at.

We were disappointed in the number of butterflies released. The “speaker” was hard to hear. We enjoyed the skeletons exhibit. Had made reservations online but when we got there no one knew anything. I did not receive anything via email. Currently checking back account to make sure I was not charged twice.

Thank you for visiting and sorry to hear about the issues with online reservations. The number of butterflies released can vary day-to-day depending on how many emerge in time for the release, we are constantly making changes to improve the Butterfly Rainforest and hope you visit us again.

Myself and my 2 grandsons had a great time. The butterflies are beautiful! We also enjoyed the other exhibits about the Florida Indian tribes. I was hoping for atleast 1hr of my grandsons time and we spent 3 hrs in the museum so I think it was a huge success.
