Leave the crowds of Skagway behind and visit Chilkoot Lake State Park in Haines.

Your tour begins with a high-speed catamaran ride along the steep-walled fjords which connect Skagway to Haines. Over a dozen unnamed waterfalls drop hundreds of feet from both sides of the boat. Upon arrival in Haines, you will meet your knowledgeable guide for a drive to Chilkoot Lake State Park.

This park has it all: a turquoise lake surrounded by snowy mountain peaks, a salmon-filled river flowing into the sea, and important Tlingit cultural sights. Bald eagles, harbor seals, and brown bears are often seen here.

Madeline was great guide. We saw salmon, and a bear in the river. Would recommend. Van ride was comfortable, being able to get off van and walk for breaks.

Thanks for this great review. I'm glad that you mentioned the comfort of our vans. We mostly utilize airport-style small buses for our tours in Haines. These buses have built-in steps for ease of boarding.

Thanks for this great review. I am so glad that you were able to see one bear. Early in August, the salmon runs are just getting going along the Chilkoot River, and bear sightings are not guaranteed. As August turns into September, the pink salmon run strengthens and the likelihood of seeing bear increases. Even then, we never guarantee bear sightings. This is the challenge and the joy of wildlife viewing.
