I booked this tour for 4 of us to celebrate a friend's birthday in August. She is a foodie and has been on many food tours throughout the US and Europe. This one was one of the best she has been on and we all rated it very highly. All 4 of us have lived here for many years (not native Californians, however) but we did not know the downtown area of LA at all. We had a wonderful time, learning about the surrounding neighborhood, the buildings, the community and, of course, tasting the food. Starting out at Pitchoun Bakery was a fantastic way to begin the day. We had scoped out the restaurant beforehand and everything looked yummy. The croissant was delicious. Moving to the Horse Thief BBQ was wonderful, as it took us past the Biltmore Hotel and to the Grand Central Market. How fascinating. We took a quick look inside the hotel and then learned about Bunker Hill and the Angel's Flight on the way to the Horse Thief. This was so interesting, as we had all heard of Angel's Flight but had never seen it. All of the food we tasted was delicious and fantastic, especially the grilled cheese sandwich at DTLA Cheese and the BBQ from the Horse Thief. We also loved Guisado's, although some found it a bit spicy, even with the "milder" stuff. And who could not love the macarons at Bottega Louie? Along the way we visited Clifton's Cafeteria, such a local landmark and about the only one left in existence, and the Million Dollar Theater. What a treat to go inside both of these legendary places. Ciera was our guide and she was delightful. She was enthusiastic, entertaining, and for having only lived here a short time, she really knew her stuff. This was a wonderful day and we were stuffed when we finished. This is a tour worth taking, whether you are a visitor to LA or live in the area. It was filled with fabulous food and interesting information. Truly a highlight of the summer for all 4 of us!
