Огляд
Experience a guided tour of the historic neighborhood where Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. spent his childhood. Our tour gives an in-depth overview of the life of Dr. King Jr. from his formative years as a youth growing up on historic “Sweet Auburn” Ave, once called the richest Negro street in the world, to his impact as a leader in the Civil Rights Movement. Hear the stories that helped shape his character. You’ll gain insight into Atlanta’s history as well as other movers and shakers such as the city’s first Black Millionaire, on through the struggles of the Jim Crow era. Our guide is a long-time Atlanta resident who has worked for three former Atlanta Mayors including civil rights icon and former U.S. Ambassador. Andrew J. Young Jr.

I felt compelled to write a positive review because almost everything written prior to this review has been corrected by the tour company. My family of six stayed close to the airport and we got calls for confirmation prior to landing. They picked us up from the nearest hotel, and on our way we saw many landmarks all while the driver explained the history. We soon arrived at the MLK's childhood home and another tour guide met us there. She walked in with us and gave us more background about the family. Later we walked to the church and she continued to tell us the history of the church and new church. We then walked to the park and in the museum. Finally they took us to a different restaurant since Busy Bees is closed on Saturdays. We had lunch at Mary mac's Tea room (another great fried chicken place), and both tour guides sat with us to eat. We ate a delicious lunch and had great conversations about the kind of food we were eating. The tour guides Shelly and Stephanie gave us background about themselves. Finally they dropped us off. My family couldn't stop talking about the tour and just the wonderful company we had.

This was a poor tour in that the guide left us to tour the site and read about the history on our own. We didn't eat at Busy Bee's as advertised, as the guide said it's very busy on Saturdays and the wait time is too long. We were dropped off at another restaurant that we visited the previous day on our Southern Food Tour, however we should have gone to Busy Bee's as advertised. We didn't spend any time at the historic black colleges, as we just drove down the street and looked out the van windows. The guide was friendly however that's not enough considering the amount of money that's charged for this tour. This tour company should not be used as we believe Viator could find better for it's travelers.

The driver and guide were very polite and friendly. However, several detractions affect my overall review. Multiple attempts were required to successfully contact our tour conductor. The most important expectation was to receive more comprehensive information on a guided tour that would enhance and provide a framework and broader view of the self-guided portion of the tour. Park Rangers were available for the self-guided portion of the tour which included the interior of MLKs home and the Ebenezer Baptist Church. However, The Heritage Tour fell short of being a guided tour because it did not take advantage of the many opportunities that were available to enhance, frame or add historical connections and other insightful information about Atlantas rich history, the civil rights movement, and Martin Luther King Jrs life. Consequently, the tour had low value for the price paid since the admission is free to each of the national historical sites. Also, the tour omitted the Martin Luther King Jr Center, the Atlanta University Center and MLKs favorite soul food restaurant, the Busy Bee. Instead of the Busy Bee, we were given a 14 voucher to eat lunch at a newly built, modern Paschal restaurant that replaced the original. The food was good, but it had no historical significance other than the Paschal name.
In conclusion, I was very disappointed in this tour because it added no value to a self-guided tour that I could have done on my own.
