First of all Wolfgang ( our tour guide), was very knowledgeable about the Birmingham area. He kept us educated on the history and what was happening presently. My favorite part of the tour was our visit to the Alabama Peanut Company. Si ce I'm not from Alabama, my first taste of a boiled peanut was amazing! We were able to watch the worker open up the peanut roaster, and have the roasted peanuts fall into a metal tub when they were done. That was fun to watch. We bought the Cajun flavored peanuts to take home. Vulcan park was truly an experience I'll always cherish. We were also able to take pictures on Legion Field, the staff there was great and accomidating. We were also able to visit Rickwood Field, the oldest baseball park in America. That my friend was like viewing the past so glad that ,that field hasn't been torn down. What a historic treasure for Birmingham, that is being used in present day. We were able to witness this beautiful city alive and well. I will finish with this16th Street Church was a reminder to me that we should all love one another. Not try and hurt one another. The church is beautiful, the stained glass windows are amazing. I loved the MLK statue across the street. Birmingham is a gem!

We booked this tour before covid shut everything down and was finally able to go to Birmingham and take this tour. Wolfgang Poe was pour tour guide and this ended up being a private tour since there was no one else on the tour the day we went. Wolfgang is very knowledgeable about Birmingham history and you won't be disappointed in this tour. He covers the founding of the city, the heritage of the city's iron foundry and mining. He takes you to Vulcan Park where you get to experience the museum and see the worlds largest cast iron statue. you visit an antebellum plantation with a rich history. You go by Rickwood Field, the oldest professional baseball park still in use in the US (built in 1910), you see the "castle" in Birmingham, the "heaviest corner on earth" and the 16th Avenue Baptist Church, an important site in the civil rights story of Birmingham and the nation. The only thing we didn't get to see was inside the church, because there was a funeral in the church the time we arrived. One hidden gem on the tour is the Alabama Peanut Company, which you will not see unless you are looking for it, and many tourists are not aware of. Wolfgang is very entertaining and the tour is worth the money spent. if you only have a day to sight see Birmingham, I recommend this tour. We had taken a Ghost Tour by Birmingham Historic Touring Company the night before and we covered some of the same things on the Ghost Tour that would be on the Historic Tour, like Sloss Furnace so we did not repeat those. The tour is advertised as 3 hours, but if you stay for the extended tour by a docent at Arlington Plantation, it can run longer than 3 hours. The tour of Arlington is excellent, but will last over an hour if you tour the grounds and hear a presentation of the history of the mansion. We thoroughly enjoyed this tour and highly recommend it if you are looking for an overview of Birmingham and its relevant history.
