My wife and I attended this luau on 4/1. We have been to a number of luaus both on Oahu and Maui. This was the first one that we've attended since COVID devastated the world, so it's likely that our experience was different than the previous version of this luau.
First, the good stuff...The setting is absolutely beautiful and the tables were appropriately "distanced" to meet pandemic guidelines. We sat at one of the side table for two, which was very intimate and we had a great view of the stage. The server and bartenders were very attentive. Of course, the Andaz resort is very high-end, so the entire resort has an excellent Aire about it. The food was served individually on a "school lunchroom"-type tray with a sampling of all items on the menu.
Now the not-so-good. The entertainment really didn't capture our attention. It's like there was singing and dancing in the back ground while we were enjoying a meal on the lawn. The food had good items and poor items. The first course was forgettable. The tuna poke was very fatty and tough (not expected), the beef poke was tasty as was the mushroom salad. I can't even recall the other items in that course. The second course had a protein sampling. The chicken and mahi mahi were both excellent. The Kahlua pork was average and the prime rib was mediocre. The other items in the course were forgettable. The third course was dessert. The flourless chocolate cake tasted like an undercooked brownie. The cheesecake was good though. We left before the show actually concluded because it was lackluster. We expected more for the high price tag.
A word of caution, if you are staying on the west side of the island like we did, it's easily a $100 cab ride each way. Couple that with the price of the luau and it's makes for a pricey evening.
