It’s no question that locals and past visitors consider Mesa Verde National Park a must-visit. It allows us a rare opportunity to experience preserved North American history before European contact. Our tour vehicles are comfortable, air conditioned, and come with speakers to help you hear your guide's interp throughout the drive.

  • Suitable for all physical fitness levels
  • You must bring your own car seats for children who require them. CO Car Seat Law states that children up to 8 years old must be in an appropriate car seat.
  • Sunglasses, hats, sunscreen, and water are recommended.
  • Dress in layers. Summer is cool in the morning and hot by the afternoon. Bring a warm coat, hat, and gloves for fall, winter, and spring.
  • Part of the tour may include climbing 10 ft. ladders made of Tree Trunks. Not all travelers are required to participate in this part but this is required in order to exit Cliff Palace

Even though we'd lived in Colorado for over 50 years, we'd never been to Mesa Verde. We are SO glad we did this tour when we finally decided to visit. Our guide, Kellie, was so knowledgeable and charming that we feel like we know so much more about this place and culture than we ever could have if we'd just gone through on our own. On the ride from Durango (which was very comfortable), she gave us a nice, comprehensive history of the pueblan peoples and Mesa Verde itself. Then, once we were in the park, she took us to the popular - and not as popular - places, and helped us understand the history and significance of each. Her passion for Mesa Verde and this culture was apparent throughout the day, and that she shared it with us was a special treat!

We were extremely lucky to get Jay take us on a full day tour of Mesa Verde and the surrounds. We ended up in a van by ourselves (there were 7 of us in the family - from aged 7 to 70) due to a bit of a mix up with meeting spot but that turned out to our good luck. So Jay started asking questions about us immediately and made us feel welcome. If you are going to be in the car all day with someone who is your tour guide, you want them to tell you not just the general information but things tailored to your diverse interests that engaged the adults and the teens and little ones. Jay was great at personalizing the tour, filling it with his personal stories, adapting to the smoky winds (couple of us had breathing issues with the wildfire smoke) and generally being funny and a joy to deal with. The drive is beautiful with astonishing rock formations along the way and he took us to a few off the beaten track walks, where the kids found antique pottery. The tour of Mesa Verda was done by the park ranger and it was incredible. The walk down is steep, narrow but manageable unless you are super unfit. Although it is high up, it doesn't feel like it. You get to see and touch (a tiny bit ) of history. We could have driven up on our own but I have to say that having Jay take us allowed us to see everything, enjoy a catered lunch, and hear more about the history of the area than if we had gone on our own. Lastly, it is hardish driving - just lots of bends and altitude so it is nice to be a passenger.
