Glenn H. Curtiss Museum
Glenn Curtiss began his career as a builder of bicycles and then, motorcycles. In 1907 he became the "fastest man on earth" when he attained a speed of 136.4 MPH on his V8 powered motorcycle. An exact reproduction of this bike is one of several Curtiss motorcycles that are on display. On July 4th, 1908, Curtiss gained notoriety of a different kind when he flew his flying machine, named the "June Bug", a distance of over 5000 feet to win the Scientific American Trophy. This was the first pre-announced, public flight in America - a feat that earned him pilot's license # 1. A full-sized reproduction of the "June Bug" is one of several historic aircraft on display. In addition to motorcycles and aircraft, visitors will also see antique tools, toys, boats, and much more. There's something here for everyone!

I grew up in Elmira, currently live in Rochester, travel between Elmira and Rochester a few times a month and used to exhibit at the Keuka Lake Art Association show in Hammondsport and yet had never been to the Glenn H. Curtiss Museum until yesterday. It certainly exceeded expectations. The layout of the museum takes you through Curtiss’s history and there’s an amazing amount to learn. The collections of bikes, motorcycles, airplanes, cars, boats and airplane engines is awesome. It’s exciting to learn about all this aviation pioneer did in the the Finger Lakes region. Certainly something this area can be proud of. And to have this museum here is wonderful. The gift shop has a nice array of items from books to t shirts. I will definitely visit again.

My husband ,being a pilot having a love for all things airplane , enjoyed this museum as did I. The humble beginnings of Glenn H Curtiss and his impact on our lives with engines, bicycles. motorcycles and airplanes is amazing and to think- he started his life in little Hammondsport, NY! I enjoyed the Civil War memorabilia as well as the old Model T cars etc. on display. Wonderfully done museum that appeals to more than just airplane enthusiasts .

truly a fascinating museum displaying many old bikes, motorcycles, aircraft, boats, etc. I never knew much about Glenn Curtiss and his company, so it is truly a place of history with many, many things to see. A touch pricey ($27 for 2 adults) but well worth it
