This was our first time to Key West. We came with friends. They have been on this tour before. I originally had my doubts about going snorkeling in February. The water had to be freezing. I couldn’t have been more excited about the weather: mid 70’s and sunny while the water was a perfect temperature . We sailed out to our first destination where we were to snorkel. The water was clear you could see the sand, coral and sponges on the bottom. I’ve never snorkeled before so I was more than a bit anxious. After 15 minutes in the water and calming myself it was a most pleasant experience. We saw comb jellyfish, silvery fish, lots of sponges, lobster, and a moray eel. After boarding the boat, the crew had a very nice lunch ready. Hold on to your plates! The tropical wind will play with your multi-tasking skills. We then sailed to our next destination for kayaking. This was really fun. We saw sting rays, barracuda, sea snake, spotted sea cucumber (if you hold one it may “poop” purple ink all over your hands), and sharks. One of the coolest experiences was kayaking through the mangrove. Then we finally sailed back to dock after a full day where we saw many Portuguese Man of War jellyfish. They were so cool. The crew served us fresh fruit in the morning and chips and salsa in the afternoon. We also had coolers of soda, sparkling water, and beer and wine. All this was inclusive in your cost of the sail. Last, but not least, Evan, our captain, and Molly and Mary, our deckhands were awesome. I would highly recommend sailing with them and getting to know them. This was an experience of a lifetime. In February no less.
