As far as I know, this is the lowest cost option for a half day of fishing in Miami. It was $45 per person for Florida residents including tackle, bait, and fish cleaning. That being said, expect a little bit of a crowd, and a few tangles. This is a party boat. You will drift and bottom fish. There were about 25 people on my trip, but it wasn't too bad. I arrived early and got a spot on the stern, so I wasn't right in the middle of the pack. I also fished on a Saturday morning. Apparently it is much less crowded during the week.
If you want a private boat that will take you kite fishing for Sailfish, this isn't for you. For that kind of fishing you'll need to be prepared to spend $800 for a half day. If you want a 60' Viking Convertible (fancy Sportfishing yacht), this isn't for you. That will set you back $1200+.
The Captain and mates were attentive and helpful. I didn't need coaching, but they stopped by to check on me regularly. I never had to sit around waiting on bait. I caught 4 fish and took Snapper fillets home for dinner.
The only thing that disappointed me was the fact that 90% of the people got off of the boat without tipping the mates. That is poor fishing etiquette! If somebody takes care of you for 4 hours, take care of them. It isn't their fault you didn't catch a Sailfish.
If you know what to expect, there is no reason why this won't be a fun day out on the water. Wet a line, have a beer, and if you're lucky, you'll take home dinner.
