Don't let the smallness or look of the boat deter you! Our travel agent booked this trip, so it was sight unseen for us. She did a great job! While there are other boats available for whale watching, most of them are HUGE - think 100-200 passengers, which means that everyone is stuck where they sit. We had options of inside and outside - aft or bow - sit or stand. I think because we were smaller, we were able to see dolphins swimming around and under our boat - I can't imagine that those huge ships had that option. By "look" of the boat, I mean that it's not a super cruiser but it easily handled the waves and got us there fast. The guide was very knowledgeable and clearly passionate about marine life and willing to share with us. His excitement made us want to rush to the rails to see the baby dolphin swimming on mom's back! A couple of suggestions - read their suggestions - bring at least a windbreaker and warm clothes - gloves help with the wet, cold rails. And, buy one of their seasick pills for $1. We didn't anticipate getting sick but read enough reviews to go ahead and take one. A family of 5 was near us and 2 of the teens were clearly struggling. The mate was hospitable and kind - making us hot chocolate and with a great sense of humor - my name is Pete - like Peter without the r. Highly recommend this boat and the trip!

We joined the trip as they offered smaller boats with fewer people. This was a bonus in not having to crane of other heads. It was a bit of a drawback for another as sea sickness was a factor. The sightings of whales, dolphins, albatrosses, seals, sea otters and cormorants were fantastic. The naturalist and crew were knowledgeable and friendly in keeping us informed. It was a great four hours and I would do it again.

My wife and I booked a whale watching trip to fill up some time on our trip to Monterey, not realizing that this would be the most memorable part of our trip! Staff were funny, friendly, and knowledgeable. We started out from Monterey Bay, stopping by to check out the seal colony. The first two hours of our trip were somewhat slow, but eventually we came upon a large bait ball of anchovies. Starting here, we saw a ton of wildlife, including some seals hunting, a random Sunfish, sea otters, and over 150 dolphins (who sped next to our boat for around 15 minutes). The crew found 8 Himpbacks through the trip, one group of 5 that we followed for sometime. Sighting their spouts, seeing one breach, and watching their tails drift down into the water on a dive was not something I ever thought I'd see. At the end of the 4 hour excursion, we headed back to the dock. However, near Pacific Grove we circled and came upon a Blue Whale! It was amazing to see the largest animal to ever live (this one was about 80 or 85 feet long, twice as long as the boat). Would absolutely recommend this! If you haven't been on a boat on the ocean, be sure to take an anti nausea (they offered them for I think $1). The staff took care of those that got sick, but you don't want to be sea sick for this awesome experience!
