Our group of 4 ladies were looking for a short, inexpensive wine tasting experience while our husbands were at a ball game. With only a day to prepare, we found this experience on TripAdvisor and jumped on it. Being here on vacation, I was hoping it would be at some fancy winery but it was actually in a back room utilized as a tasting area right in the heart of the little town of Healdsburg. It was much different than I had anticipated but it turns out we all had a great time.
There were two other tables in the room. Each had its own server. We had a table to ourselves.. Our initial server, Adam, had to leave and Tom replaced him. With one year of sommelier training, Tom did a fine job of introducing us to each wine and explaining to us about how the wine complements the food choices. The first wine was a Rose´ and the remaining three wines were red wines. I typically prefer white over red but the purpose of the tasting was to demonstrate how the wines pair with food. Surprisingly, the strong red flavor of typical red wines did not show up.
We were presented with 4 small dishes of food. Each food was brought to us with a different wine. The pourings were generous. The food was delicious and each dish was made with several different spices which accentuated the flavor greatly.
The hour and a half allotted for the experience was just perfect. We left feeling satiated and did not even need dinner afterward. Once we finished the tasting, we enjoyed strolling around the Healdsburg Square just right outside the front door. It was a very pleasant way to spend a late afternoon on vacation!
