My friend and I had such a great experience on our walking tour of Tijuana! My friend wasn’t comfortable exploring the city on our own, so we booked this tour last-minute (less than 24 hours before the tour started). By the next afternoon, we’d walked across the border, met up with our guide, Gregorio, and our group, and headed downtown.
Our guide was wonderful! He was kind, patient, explained everything clearly, kept a close eye on everyone in the group to make sure no one was falling behind, let us know where we could use bathrooms, and was full of great information and stories about the city. He was also wonderful about acting as photographer to get the requisite tourist shots by the Tijuana sign and in front of the arch. The lunch and snacks that were included with the tour were delicious and a good mix of fun (grasshoppers) and delicious (cheese and sweets). There was a lot of walking — generally, tours walk from the border to downtown, and then walk all around downtown to see the various sites, then take a cab back to the border — but my friend, who’s not exactly spry, was able to keep up without too much effort.
The only thing that would have improved the experience was a little more clarity about where we were meeting. The information given provided an address on the US side of the border, but from reading other reviews we figured we’d be meeting up on the Mexican side (which is very fair, considering how long it takes to get over the border from Mexico to the US), but we weren’t sure where to meet on that side. We were eventually contacted by our guide and were able to meet up with him and our group without too much trouble, but being the anxious people we are, it would have really improved our experience to have had information about how to cross the border (how to get there, where to park if you drive, an overview of what the process entails) included with the confirmation information. We were able to fill in the gaps with some judicious Googling, but it really would have put our minds at rest to have the information up front.
However, that’s a small quibble with what was honestly an amazing afternoon!
TL;DR: If you’re hesitating, do it!
