This was an amazing experience from the very beginning.
If Tadeo ever leaves the company, I swear it will go under. He was an amazing guide. Very knowledgeable and very funny.
I am often a lone traveler, and like many, I was very nervous about traveling across the border alone. I met my group right away, and we all totally clicked. It made me feel safe from the get go being with a group.
*Note: you meet in front of the McDonald's, but there is a much cheaper parking lot right up the hill from that spot. You'll pay $8 for 8 hours, rather than $5 an hour if you're willing to walk one extra block.
All of us crossed the border together, which was very quick and easy. Our guide was waiting for us right on the other side.
We took a great big van (it's a form of public transportation they have in Tijuana) into the city center, which saved 20 minutes of walking.
From there, Tadeo gave us a very diverse tour of the city center. We covered all thr landmarks, the photo opportunities, the markets, cathedral, city hall, art gallery, city archives, etc.
The tour really covers everything anyone could be interested in learning, and Tadeo was very knowledgeable. This is not the guy who only memorized a script about the city, and doesn't know answers to unscripted questions. That was awesome.
We stopped for Margaritas, and then a tequila tasting. Be prepared to bring some extra cash to buy tequila bottles. You can take them back across the border with you. Plus, this being a border town, everyone accepts either American dollars or Pesos, and everyone knows the conversion rate (it was one dollar to twenty pesos when I was there).
You will also get a meal of yummy Mexican food and the time to souvenir shop before your guide takes you right back to the border.
*Note #2: please be sure to keep some of the cash you bring to tip your guide. I was mortified to realize that I didn't in fact have the extra $20 in my wallet at the end of the day.
*Note #3: my group crossed the border at 1pm and we got back state side at 6:45pm. This really is an all afternoon activity, so plan accordingly.
I would recommend this to anyone wanting to see Mexico, learn about Tijuana, or just have a fun experience when visiting San Diego. 10/10!
