From Gilligan's Island and Fantasy Island to Jurassic Park and Lilo & Stitch and everything in between, this is a movie tour to remember! From the get-go, our tour guide, Robert, who had lived on the island his entire life, was very knowledgeable about the island and its rich history of movie making! They also picked us up and dropped us off right from our resort, so that was fantastic!!
The best parts of the tour, were the locations they took us. We'd watch a clip and the next thing you know, you look out the window and bam, there's the place it was filmed! Also, they took us to beaches and locations that were off the beaten path and not generally known to the public. Something you'd probably never find if you were out on your own. The coco palms stop was probably my favorite. This is a resort that's now in ruins and a historical landmark on the island. Because of legal issues, it has not yet been restored to it's glory, but this tour company is the only company that has permission to stop here and do a walkabout through the property. We learned about the history of the resort and all the celebrities that stayed there, including Elvis! We were also able to meet one of Elvis' old acquaintances, who still writes and plays music today.
The tour itself is a longer tour, 6-7 hours or so depending on how long you stay at each site. Lunch is near the end of the tour, so make sure you bring breakfast with you on the bus and snacks in a cooler or something. That's what we did and it was a lifesaver. On our first stop at Wailua falls, there's a lady, Tina, who sells homemade banana bread out of her van, which is delicious by the way. She's has a few different great flavors. She's also been an extra in a few of Dwayne Johnson's movies. She's got photos to prove it. The only negative I would say, was that the lunch tasted good, but it was like it had sat out for an hour or so. It wasn't as fresh as it could've been. They drop you by the Kauai Beach Resort for lunch, which is a beautiful resort! You sit in one of their dining rooms overlooking the resort and they give you a club sandwich, chips and a drink.
Suggestions would be to bring snacks and drinks as aforementioned, good sturdy shoes, but not necessarily tennis shoes if you want to dip your toes in the water as you will be visiting several beaches. Sunscreen is a must as well as a camera!
