Take a leisurely cruise down the Wailua River to the botanical beauty of the Fern Grotto. Wailua River is known as "the only navigable river" in all Hawaii. The rivers fresh water pours from the Mt. Wai'ale'ale, one of the wettest spots on the plant.Lands along the river were the sacred capital of ancient Kauai and the birth place of the island's ali'i, or royalty. During the two mile river journey, you'll hear songs and stories of ancient Hawaii and enjoy learning the hula during a lesson provided by a young hula dancer. The Fern Grotto is a geological wonder of Kauai. Ferns grow upside down from the roof of the grotto, which was formed millions of years ago. Native Hawaiian plants and colorful exotic tropical plants provide a rain-forest atmosphere. A visit to the overlook at Opaekaa Falls , the most accessible waterfall on the island, will secure your love of Kauai, our garden island.

We really enjoyed this tour. The waterfall is lovely. Unfortunately it started raining as we boarded the boat to cruise up the Wailua River, but of course that is not the fault of the tour operator! The boats are large and stable. If you sit at the back it is not easy to hear the commentary because you are right next to the boat's engine (see photos). The Fern Grotto is worth visiting, even in the rain. The pathways leading to and from the fern grotto are lined with gorgeous tropical flowers like torch ginger. The tour operator provided umbrellas which were appreciated. In all, a good excursion and we would recommend it.

The cruise and fern grotto were so beautiful. The tour guides were interesting and funny. There was also lovely music and dancing. We were on the island for a week, and we did a lot of activities, but this was the highlight.

Our tour made a stop to biew the river and nearby waterfall in the way to the river cruise. Took River cruise to fern grotto and Viewed the beautiful fern grotto while being serenaded by Hawaiian women. Memorable and lovely. On the way back we learned a hula dance and we’re entertained by local Hawaiian women.
