During a stop ashore, your knowledgeable guide will lead a short nature walk highlighting the flora and fauna of the rainforest, including a carnivorous plant, the Sundew, which uses it’s tentacles to ensnare small insects. After paddling back, guests re-board the motorcoach and return to the cruise ship pier.

A beautiful day in Ketchikan. From the first moment with Colt, he stimulated enthusiasm for the excursion. He is infectious and knowledgeable. Thank you, Colt, for a lovely day on the lake! Ed, the bus driver was a hoot. Kept us entertained the whole trip. Loved the echo!

If I was just rating on the quality of our guide and the delicious snack, this would be a 5/5. However, we were disappointed with this excursion and would not recommend. The description is a little misleading. We thought we’d have some opportunity to see wildlife, though as soon as we got on the bus we were informed this would not be the case as not much wildlife is at this location. The carnivorous plant is probably cooler to see later on in the season, but when we went (late May), it was smaller than the size of a thumb nail. The nature walk is good-hearted, and our guide, Colt, was incredibly knowledgeable about the forest and the different quirks. Probably great for kids. Not much that you can’t see walking into a local forest though. The huge upside was Colt’s enthusiasm and passion for the area. It was contagious and we’re very appreciative to him. Every person in your group is in the same canoe, so paddling can be difficult, especially when there are people who have never canoed before. Overall, this experience can be had pretty much anywhere that has a small lake. Pass if you want something a little more true to Alaska/Ketchikan.

Bumpy road ride, almost no intro to the history of Alaska. Lake is serene, but local nature guide lacks nature knowledge and the forest walk was less then 5 min. Pretty disappointed at thr nature interpretation. Canoe ride was present and snak was good . But would not recommend .
