OMG this was so much fun!!! I honestly was really surprised that they would let the guests drive the ATVs but I was SO excited by the opportunity since I had never driven one before!!! The place was a little hard to find as Google Maps took us in a different direction. However, once we got there, all the staff were very friendly while checking us in and outfitting us with helmets and goggles. The staff gave us a brief safety talk as well as told us how we would proceed up the mountain and off we went!!! The ATV adventure is a "follow the leader" type of event so you can't go off on your own ripping it up. However, they judge how comfortable everyone is at driving the ATVs at the beginning of the trip and if everyone is good they go through the track quite fast which is still tons of fun. Our tour guides on the ATV ride were Gunther and Patrick and they were both fantastic. They told us all about the land, the struggles that Maui has had with drought and fires and what they are doing about it to try and revitalize their precious island. We also learned some fun facts about Lanai. Due to the drought on Maui, there was not a lot of mud to go through with the ATVs. However, there was plenty of dust!!! Towards the end of the trip, the belt drive on one of the ATVs broke, rending the ATV useless. Gunther and Patrick quickly jumped into action, moved the family in the broken ATV to the other ATVs and off we went!!! My family and I have never done this type of adventure on Maui before but having done it, we would definitely do it again!!! Thanks to all the staff and Lahaina ATV Adventures!!! Quick tip is to make sure to wear clothes you don't care about too much. Maui has this fine red dirt that kicks up with the ATVs and will get on most of you as you are driving throughout your trip.
