I knew that my husband and I would be coming to Las Vegas at the end of July and was trying to come up with unique things to do. His 40th birthday is coming up, and I remember an off handed remark he had made once about getting to handle heavy equipment. A light bulb went off in my head and I remembered that there was one of those places in Vegas. I googled “drive heavy equipment Las Vegas” and Dig This was the first place to show up. I clicked on the link, looked up some reviews on TripAdvisor, and watched some YouTube videos. I was sold. I booked the bulldozer package because I have no idea which machine my husband wanted to operate and a bulldozer sounded cool.
I kept this a secret from my husband until we were turning on the street to Dig This. To say he was excited was an absolute understatement. The smile across his face was from ear to ear. We pulled up to the place and were greeted by Brian and a lovely lady (whose name escapes me). They greeted us, had us sanitize our hands and fill out a COVID waiver. They were really great at making sure extra precautions were taken to ensure proper sanitation between visitors.
At this point Brian told my husband he could choose between the excavator and bulldozer and my husband chose the excavator. We watched a safety video and got to see how things would work with their mini display. Then it was outside to get the adventure started.
When I booked his reservation there was a small box asking if you would like to upgrade your experience to include shooting guns. Thinking this meant he was going to get to operate heavy equipment and shoot guns while on the equipment, I said “heck yes” and paid the extra money. It was only when we were talking to the staff at Dig This that I found out we had to travel to a different facility for the gun experience. Definitely didn’t realize that and my only constructive feedback would be to include a better description about this at booking.
When we got outside, I was taken to a covered spectator area to watch my husband live out his construction worker dreams and was given a headset so I could listen to everything going on.
My husband climbed into the excavator and Brian worked his magic teaching my husband how to operate the excavator and get the hang of how to handle the very sensitive controls. My husband had a freaking blast. At times he was so focused and deep in concentration that he would Not respond to us. You could see how hard he was working to complete the tasks meticulously.
This was a great early birthday present, and I highly recommend it to anyone looking for an exciting day getting to live out your inner construction worker dreams.
Brian was fantastic and so was the woman working the front desk. She even helped me out when I needed to print a document for work while my husband was in the excavator. Thank you so much for taking such good care of us. We will be back some day to get to crush one of those cars!
