We've rafted the Lower Yough with this group 4 times and it's always a fun and exciting experience. The level of attention and care from the leaders varies from year to year... this year Ave and Mark were our stand-out leaders... giving us great instructions and leadership through each challenge (especially after our boat flipped 3 of the 4 of us out at Rivers End!) and paying close attention to the rafts with beginners. Notes: arrive on time, but expect to wait a bit. Use the restroom, put on your sunscreen, eat a snack... lunch is a couple hours away. There are no dry-buckets in these boats, so if you have stuff (water bottle, sunscreen, snacks) you'll need your own dry bag and a rope to secure it around the crossbeam (or thwart). One of our crew brought a small clip-on bottle of sunscreen for which we were all thankful. Wear a ballcap under your helmet... it helps keep water out of your eyes when you most need to see! And put a lanyard on your sunglasses, even if you just tie a string to the arms. Wear closed-toe water shoes or old sneaks... in the excitement of the ride, there can be unintentional stomping in the bottom of the boat. Lastly, expect that you'll want to tip your guides at the end and put that cash in your locked car for afterwards. Our typical tip: $10/person in the boat. We will be back!
