What a fun way to spend some time! We just got back from a week in Oahu (July 27th - Aug. 4th) and went on a Makani catamaran twice. The first time was a lunch cruise. It was very nice with beautiful views of Waikiki and Diamond Head. The lunch pastries were excellent. The second time was a morning cruise. On this one we saw a bunch of turtles - very cool! If we ever make it back, I'll do this again. Maybe try the evening cruise.

My wife and I and two daughters 11 and 12 went on the Friday night sunset sail in early October. As others have described Captain Jon and crew provide a great sailing experience on a beautiful catamaran. My daughters were thrilled to ride the net. The food and drinks are just right for a casual evening sail. Pictures-O-Plenty with the beautiful views of downtown Honolulu, Waikiki, Diamond Head and the sunset. We were treated to a double rainbow over the foothills of the mountains behind downtown. The Friday night fireworks top off a great evening that I recommend to everyone. Don't go for the big cattle car bloated boat cruises. This is the sailing trip you want to take.

Makani Catamaran--Perfect Experience!!! (Five Star) We recently booked a sunset cruise on the Makani catamaran in Honolulu on Oahu for our last night in Hawaii. The experience couldn't have been better. The owner of the company (John) picked us up at our hotel in a very nice passenger van. We arrived at the Makani and were told that there would only be a total of 8 people on the boat, and our group comprised four of the eight!!! They had the option of cancelling and rescheduling the tour, but chose not to. The entire boat crew were very friendly and mingled with the guests. We were each given two drink coupons as part of the sunset cruise package. The drinks were great, especially their signature drink...it was so good, I can't remember the name of it. They provided a nice range of appetizers. There are two "nets" in the front of the catamaran that you can sit on during the sail. These provide a great view of the water below and provide a different experience. The cruise lasted over 2 hours. They didn't just take you out, watch the sunset and come back in. They actually sailed around (yes with the sails and not the motor) for quite some time. The catamaran is beautiful and exceeded our expectations. We have been on sunset cruises before where you see these great pictures of a boat (kind of looks like a yacht) and then you get there and it is a bit dumpy and old looking. Not the case here. The catamaran was in excellent condition. We also had the opportunity to tour the catamaran with the owner and captain, John. John helped design and build the catamaran and his passion for both the catamaran and for sailing are evident. I recommend this activity for everyone. It was one of my favorite activities while on the island. The crew and the catamaran are just outstanding.
