Our family did the Eco tour at Paddle! today, near Islamorada, FL. My kids, 20 & 24, and my husband are great SUP paddlers, and have done it many times. They had no problems and enjoyed doing something more active, on the water. I'm more of a kayak or canoe person, so I had to work a little harder at standing up, but I wanted to try something new, and I thought I might see more fish, etc., with the better vantage point. Once we got started, I knew I was going to fall off/in at some point, and I did not disappoint. It was much easier getting back on a paddle board than it is onto a kayak, so that was helpful! The guide, Lacey offered to help me, but I managed to just need her help holding onto my paddle while I climbed back on. It was a little windy today, making paddling back upstream very strenuous, and there were several larger boats going by, creating some small waves...I would recommend that on a day like today, children (under 13?) should probably do the kayak, unless they are already very comfortable on SUPs (one girl in our group did switch with Lacey, to get her kayak, and have Lacey take her SUP). The visibility wasn't great today, so we didn't see much in the water, but Lacey pointed out crabs in the mangroves, and the other guide, Mike, was very knowledgeable about the various birds we saw. We did go into a very narrow area of the mangroves, so I ended up sitting on my board, and then for most of the rest of the tour I was on my knees, where I had more power than sitting, but also more balance than standing. Overall a fun morning.
