I will start with the positive: I'm giving 2 stars because the experience with the manta rays was unbelievable. This company did a good job getting the manta rays to come to where we were floating so that we were floating inches away from them. Unfortunately, the people running the boat are in the wrong business. They were rude, unfriendly, abrupt from the outset and made us feel like we were imposing on them. There were 15 people in our group and every single person felt the same way. The kids were scared of Captain Bill, who set an unfriendly tone from the outset during his initial "lecture" about respecting his boat before we got on. When I mentioned that I thought he was a little intense to Shawna, the main person directing the trip, I was told that he was putting on a show for a potential employee on board (apparently at our expense). But I have a hard time believing that this isn't just how he is. He seemed annoyed that we were there. We had a second trip booked with this company and all 3 families agreed that we needed to find another option, so we cancelled. When our friend asked for a life jacket for his 8 year old, he was denied. Safety for the children did not seem to be much of a concern. This was not a kid friendly experience (even though I had discussed the ages of the children with Shawna prior to booking). I've been on many trips like this around the world, and I have never experienced anything like this. Bottom line: This is the wrong company to use if you're looking to have a relaxing, fun experience.

My aunt and I have been on quite a few manta tours here on the big island and this experience was definitely the best. The size of the boat and amount of people on it was perfect, not too crowded with people like the big tour companies. The captain and crew were all very welcoming and helpful from the very beginning. I appreciated their effort towards having very clear communication about everything we needed to know. We were served pineapple once we arrived at the snorkel destination and delicious homemade cookies after getting out of the water and having a hot fresh water shower. Such a nice touch! Don't forget to bring WARM clothes for afterwards on the boat ride back!

The overall experience was good. Shawna and Fletcher were very friendly and talked with nearly everyone on board. They did a good job making us feel welcome. The boat ride was beautiful. Sunset was amazing. Saw a whale from a distance. Things the crew (captain) could have done to make things better were having the lights ready to work on both boards. I think less light affected the amount of rays coming to us. One of the masks leaked throughout the time in the water for one of our party so visibility was diminished. Fletcher needs to watch where his fins are as they sometimes block the view of snorkelers down his way :-). What they couldn't control. I appreciated that Captain Dan tried another location (than he had been to days before) so we might have a better chance of seeing the mantas. The waves were high and so it was pretty rough out on the boards. There were not so many mantas because of this. Book on days with calmer seas if possible. Even though we only saw about 10 rays (1 stayed for about 4 rolls) it was a pretty amazing sight. I'd say it was just about worth the time and money.
