You certainly must have a Maori cultural experience when in NZ, and the Mitai village does a fine job in providing a hangi dinner, culture show (with traditional ceremony, dance, music, and entertainment) and a brief evening walking tour. Of course it's very touristy, and the tour buses fill the many tables, but it's a must-do when in NZ so take the plunge. The food is fine in terms of being adequate but don't expect a gourmet meal. It's pretty much a mass production done with a friendly, good-spirited ethos. Allow yourself to enjoy it!
