My wife (age 70) and I (age 76) decided on the spur-of-the-moment to take a road trip back to southern Utah to revisit National Parks we had rushed through on a trip last (2021) April. The plans (such as they were) included a visit to Moab for Arches and Canyonlands National Parks. Since we were going to be in Moab I looked for potential experiences in the area and found Mild to Wild Rafting.
For more than 30 years our vacations had involved cruising (22 in all) but, with COVID-19 and its aftermath, we decided being in a confined space with upwards of 6000 new-found friends might not be the best idea in this age of rapid spread of diseases. Having made that decision, a new "bucket list" came into being - one that included seeing our own country and experiencing its natural beauty and abundance of diverse locations and opportunities. The Colorado River is one such place encompassing both beauty and diversity.
Booking an afternoon Castle Valley rafting excursion was made so easy by Taylor who put up with my nonsense and took extremely good care of us. On the day of the trip, everyone one at the meeting site went out of their way to ensure we were properly equipped, fitted for PFDs, and thoroughly briefed on what to expect including special attention to safety on the river.
The bus ride along Utah 128 to the input site was spectacular. Traversing a canyon, we were close to the river for most of the trip. At the input site there were more rafting companies awaiting the opportunity to launch and embark the rafts but all of that was well organized and the wait time was minimal. Once we pushed off and began our approximately 9 mile float downriver, our guide, whose name we forgot to ensure we knew, conducted the trip in a highly professional manner, assuming one considers using a water cannon to drench fellow drifters in nearby rafts, thereby ensuring retaliation in kind, professional.
Highly recommend this trip to anyone, young or old, who wants an experience they will remember for a long, long time. Kudos to the entire Mild to Wild staff for making this a most memorable experience!
