We got upgraded to a great ship and the dinner cruise was off the chart. The food was very, very good
The description of New York by night with an open bar was totally inaccurate. This was floating disco with nothing that could be described as FIRST CLASS. There were two decks and we were led to a table on the 2nd deck. When asked why, we were told that the top seating deck was booked for a party. We were seated amoung all the other tables who clearly did not pay the first class fare. We along with all the other were served a poor quality sweet sparkling wine. Both ladies were appalled by the taste and so I went to the bar to get three glasses of a very standard sauvinua blanc to be told that I would have to pay for it. A discussion followed and it was a plonk or nothing. The food was poor and the disco followed quickly drowning out any conversation. In the end we put on jackets and up and down a small part of Manhatten islandent out on to a very cold and windy deck as we travelled
This was the highlight of our holiday. It was absolutely amazing as the sailing took in all the views of Manhatton and The Statue of Liberty all magically lit up. The buffet dinner was superb and the service magnificent. Drinks, however were very expensive - nothing under $10 (alcoholic) and although it was stated that all gratuities were included this was not true for the drinks waitress. She was awesome, though so our bill was a sizeable one! I would heartily recommend this trip but advise budgeting for drinks and tips.
