My husband and I took the Newport Neighborhood Food Tour in mid-May as part of an anniversary trip to Rhode Island. We were there just before the summer tourist influx began, so I imagine that the tours become more crowded, but, for us, it was, happily, a small intimate group. Our guide (really wish I could remember her name) was a former history instructor, which meant that we got the added advantage of a bit of Newport history in addition to an introduction to some of the town's most tasty treats. We had wonderful bites of food, both sweet and savory, from upscale establishments to hamburger/hot dog eateries, and we enjoyed it all. There is an option to add alcohol to the tour for an additional fee, but we did not elect to utilize that. The walk was not a difficult one, and most of the stops were spaced closely-enough together to allow for ample rest breaks. The question everyone always asks about a food tour is "was there enough food to be full?" The answer is yes. I am a short middle-aged woman with a healthy appetite. By the time I finished the last tasting I was EXTREMELY full. My husband, much taller and a big eater, was also satisfied, so much so that we decided to skip dinner that night and just have a light snack. If you are open to trying new foods and meeting new people, I do not think you will be disappointed with Rhode Island Red Food Tours.
