Our guide, Derek, gave us what amounted to a seminar on street art. He started with the origins of graffiti which he traced back to Philadelphia from "tags" to "bubble lettering" to full fledged street art ranging from wall art, "wheat paste", to quilt art, neon art and beyond. He discussed each street artist's unique style. Derek explained what street artists have to do to get permission from the owners of buildings to use the sides of the buildings as canvases for ever changing images. Derek brings a unique authenticity to the tour because he lives in the neighborhood.

We made the tour on October 4th, 2018. Our guide, Freedom, gave us deep insights not only in the present street art to be seen in Bushwick, Brooklyn, but also in the history of graffiti and street art in New York City since the eighties. All this always with a sense of humor which we appreciated so much. It was clearly noticable that telling people about the murals and artists is not only work for him, but its his passion. We could ask him questions at any time and he replied with deep knowledge and background information. We can highly recommend the Bushwick tour with Freedom.
