While researching for activities to do before we went to Hawaii, we came across the Underwater Submarine Scooter. Up for adventure activities, we booked in advance this activity with Island Water Sports. The booking process was quick and easy. Michelle, who booked our adventure, was very thorough in explaining what to expect.
The location was in the back of a strip mall. After parking, we had to walk down the stairs which led directly to the dock where our boat was. There was a quick check in process upon boarding the boat and a few small forms to complete.
The boat went about a mile offshore where they said we would see turtles and other marine life. There are usually between 8-12 submarines available and depending on the size of the group, you'll rotate in and out. Each person gets about 20 minutes underwater. If you have not gone SCUBA diving, this is a good alternative without the potential concern of breathing through a different apparatus. The scooter has a dome-shaped headpiece that lets you keep breathing normally. It was amazing seeing all the sea life in the water including the large sea turtles!
Both Boon and Kao were very helpful in explaining the mechanics and safety before our dive. Everyone has the opportunity to snorkel either before or after their scooter ride and swim among the turtles that are out there. I was able to snorkel almost next to one!
Snacks and drinking water were provided on the boat along with the all snorkel equipment and a large storage box where you can store all your valuables and other items like towels and flip-flops.
Tips:
* Bring hats and sunblock, although the boat is shaded
* No need to bring water or food as there are chips and water on board
* During your adventure, there will be a photographer taking stills and videos. You will have the opportunity to see and purchase them. Bring some cash or credit cards to purchase pictures and for tips.
* Please make sure to tip your divers as they do a great job to help you see all the sea life that's available and help navigate you through the water.
This activity is a definite must-do for all adventurers and those seeking to enjoy the underwater sea life!
