My husband and I took this tour on the perfect dark and foggy evening. We recommend comfortable walking shoes for uneven Rhode Island streets but the walk itself was not strenuous. Ms. Consequence was our guide and has a multitude of interesting stories about Newport. We loved the pirate tales and the stories of intrigue and we also really enjoyed learning the history of Newport. She is a good story teller and guide. But the tour was marred by the amount of time that was devoted to looking at photographs that she brought with her, and encouraging and sharing photographs taken by members of the group in the elusive hunt for ghosts and spiritual beings through unexplained orbs or wisps of light in photographs. Ms. Consequence stated that she has never seen a ghost nor can she attest that the photographs that her boss gave to her were in fact not digitally altered. In fact, there are dozens of reasons that unexplained dots of light or wisps can appear on an outdoor night-time photograph. We found it to be a waste of our time, and of the tour's, and the tour would have been excellent with more stories and history, and less time devoted to light tales.

Purchased tix at the Marriott adjacent to the Visitor's Center. The tour began there (at Fathom's Restaurant) promptly with an excited guide full of historical information. It was not scary - but full of intrigue and facts. My kiddos were excited to learn about pirates, public hangings, and hysterical acts committed by our political figures in history. We even captured a pic of our guide with a "form" next to her at the Armory - although ghosts are not guaranteed on the tour. Lots of walking in the dark - so bring a flashlight. I had a great time on this tour! I booked a private tour for a group of my friends, & it was very informative & interactive. The tour guide, Rachel, had fun ghost-hunting tools & tips, was very enthusiastic & knowledgeable, as well as supplying us with photographs from previous tours with some unexplainable phenomenon in them. Overall, it was definitely worth checking out, especially getting to see a lot of downtown Newport in a new light. The best part will be going back to these places & seeking out my own ghostly experiences there. I would recommend it to any tourist looking for something fun to do- even being over an hour-long walking tour, I was engaged the whole time! I would go again any day!
