Peninsula Park Caves Scenic Boat Tour

Огляд
This tour takes you along the beautiful shoreline of Peninsula State Park. You will learn about the area's rich history and see sights like Eagle Bluff Lighthouse, built in 1848. The highlight of the tour gets you up close to Eagle Bluff directly below the point where Eagle Tower sits in the park. Here, you'll see evidence of how this body of water was once part of the Silurian Sea by viewing the caves high above in the rock formations. We'll then cruise past Horseshoe Island, known as one of the safest natural harbors in the Great Lakes. While heading back to Fish Creek, we will talk about the 4 Strawberry Islands and the distant Chambers Island.

We arrived 20 minutes early. 15 minutes was suggested by the ticket salesperson. There was a long line already on the dock standing in the sun and heat. The only seats left for two of us together was in the front row. I felt fortunate that we were able to sit together. We were joined by a single person who had to leave his wife in the back row while he tried to find a seat without her. There were quite a few people who could not sit with their group. Unfortunately, the front row has a semi-transparent plastic "window" on the side that prevented any much-needed breeze from flowing through and it was just not a great view through the old plastic "window." I found an employee and mentioned that I was not comfortable being squished alongside someone that I don't know on a hot, sweaty day. Ish! "Sorry. We only give refunds due to weather" was the answer. I offered to stop back another day to use our tickets but that option was not available. They also suggested that we could move to the back of the boat but there was no shade and we were too hot for that option. It was such a beautiful sunny day with higher temps and humidity. We were really looking forward to cooling off on the water with lovely breezes and beautiful views. Instead, we were stuck on a very uncomfortable wooden bench in the front row with obstructed views and no breeze to cool off while squished next to a stranger who was also not happy about the seating situation or being able to share with his wife the snacks and wine they brought along. The boat motor is very loud. I was not expecting that it would be hard to have conversations. Hot, sweaty, and loud with limited views made for an unpleasant experience and a complete waste of our limited vacation time in Door County. Had the company managed my expectations a little, we would have made a better choice and booked a sailboat excursion instead. The crew knew that this bench in the front row was not the same experience as the other rows. They asked a few times if we were getting enough air. It was apparent that we were not the first customers unhappy about paying for a full-price ticket with a half-price experience. We left feeling tricked and cheated. It’s a little shady to run a business this way. This was the first time I've ever been in an open boat for 90 minutes without so much as my hair getting ruffled! I was hoping for a fun messy hair adventure, I guess. With other options along the shore, Fish Creek Scenic Boat Tours will not be our choice for boat rides in the future.

The trip was extremely informative and fun! Our guide, Betsy, made it very interesting and interactive. She answered everyone’s questions, and then some. I would most definitely take the tour again.

The boat is comfortable with good views all around. They have water and pop available on the boat for $1. The tour guide was entertaining and gave interesting facts about the area. We happened to go on an unusually rough water day, and the boat was fine. Being out on the water for an hour and a half was nice.
