Segways were great and it should have been a really fun trip for our family with a teen. Unfortunately we had an inexperienced guide and it was not great. Here’s what happened on our trip:
1) Radios were used to hear the guide, but throughout the trip, but nearly all participants complained about not being able to hear. The radios my family had were so static-filled,
We caught about 50% of what was said.
2) Unfortunately, that was likely a blessing. I had hoped to learn about the history of the city and sights. The tour guide spent most of the time talking about opinions from her personal life, and very little about Philadelphia. I learned about the slave trade in the Caribbean, her Netflix habits, incorrect information about admission prices for things “we might want to plan to see”, her opinion that all world religions “are the same” after passing a church and not telling us why the church was significant to the city & we need to stop and befriend homeless so that we earn karma and they know we care. (I’m not sure it’s safe for my teen to stop and befriend strangers)
3) The day the tour was booked had an extreme heat advisory with a forecast of 100-105+ It was up to the participants to make sure we had enough water with us at the start of the tour, but no stops were made so that more water could be obtained or to drink the water we had. One family had someone get sick from the activity/heat. Tour guide didn’t know what to do and didn’t have extra water on hand. So dangerous.
4) At start of the tour, one of the participants almost fell off dodging oncoming traffic. Again, tour guide was flustered and group was told to “stick together”.
There is no way this inexperienced guide should have been out solo.
