While at the mine you can also gold pan, pet the burros, slide down the 55 foot ore chute, explore the authentic mine site, view the exhibits and equipment that were used in the mine and visit the general store. The Country Boy Mine has been offering mine tours for over 20 years. The Country Boy Mine is located 2 miles from downtown Breckenridge in Summit County, Colorado.

A group of 20 something folks paying $18.95 a head trooped single file 1000 feet into a dark, dank and wet 150 year old mine tunnel. Our "foreman"/ guide treated us as if we were the miners. We donned well-worn hard hats and discovered that being a gold miner was the worst job ever. The temperature in that mine was 42 degrees,and with water dripping from the ceiling,and puddles on the floor, the mine wasn't a warm cozy venue. We were shown how difficult it was to hammer into solid rock,and how much worse things became when they introduced the pneumatic drill. It was a tough history lesson. Mining isn't the exciting occupation it was reported to be. There was twenty minutes spent on a photo op involving a reputed gold nugget and a miner's pick. This is something to do when the weather is bad. Be prepared to be underwhelmed.

We were looking for something to do and saw that this was near where we were staying. We weren't expecting much, but were pleasantly and extremely surprised by the wonderful tour we got. Our tour guide was FANTASTIC! He had an awesome voice (kinda like Johnny Cash) and was a GREAT storyteller. We fed the miniature donkeys and went down the chute (you shouldn't leave the mine without doing so...it was fun!). A must see!

Went here on a rainy day in Breckenridge. We learned alot and had an interesting tour of a real gold mine. Came with kids 16, 14 and 8 and everyone enjoyed it. Hard to find, though...no signs on the road. We were driving on a paved road which turned into a dirt road full of home construction, weren't sure we were headed the right way. They should put a sign or two out on the way in.
