Good way to see the sights of San Diego and orientate yourself on things to do and places to see. Not knowing the area we stayed on the bus for one complete tour and then used the hop on hop off system. Busses are plentiful and the areas you are shown are in the main good. Seemed to stop at some strange places however, e.g. Marriott Hotel. Drivers were varied in their commentary, some better than others but that will come down to personal taste.

We had a two day ticket for this tour as part of CityPass. The first day we used it was perfect - getting on at the Marina, hopping off at Coronado and then getting back on and going back to the Marina. The guides we had were good, giving us plenty of facts about each area of San Diego we passed through and recommendations for places to visit in each district, as well as suggestions for restaurants. The second day we waited to hop on at the Bilboa Park stop. Our plan was to hop off at Old Town, grab some food, then take the trolley back to the Marina. The trolley’s are scheduled for about every twenty minutes. Unfortunately, we waited over an hour for the trolley to arrive on this occasion and there was a long line of disgruntled people by the time the trolley arrived, with a second one behind it. This threw our plans out as the trolleys would have stopped by the time we had finished eating and so our second day experience was disappointing. When booking the trolley bear in mind that the route is fixed. It goes to Coronado, which is great, but the circuit is a long one. We found it really good for an overall tour of San Diego to orientate yourself and find out some history of each area, but it’s not so good if you have specific places you want to get to as you are subject to the trolleys turning up as per the timetables.
