Our trips depart from Mission Bay, which requires only a short 10 minute journey access to the open ocean where whales and dolphins can be seen! The search for whales and other animals begins as soon as you depart the dock and our marine biologists are on the microphone explaining exactly what to expect and what you are seeing from the get go!
Typically our trips are 2.5-3 hours in length, but time can vary based on seasons and locations of sightings.

Coming in, we knew that we were not likely to see whales as this is just the beginning of the blue whale season. And we were correct. No whale sightings. But I still would recommend going out. Much of the boat ride out was in the fog. Other people would mind it more, but since I’m from Phoenix, it was kind of exhilarating. Everybody on the boat was kind and knowledgeable. I’ve had other naturalists who were more garrulous, but this one was perfectly adequate. We were lucky to see many, many pods of dolphins. They were exciting to watch. It was especially nice to see so many cow and calf pairs. It was a nice way to spend the morning. BRING A JACKET!

San Diego Whale Watch was such a Wonderful Experience! Not only was the Weather Perfect, the Team~ Professional, Friendly and extremely Knowledgeable (Learned a lot of new & interesting facts!) and the Sea Life put on a Spectacular show. We go every year, though this year was by far the very Best! Thank You San Diego Whale Watch & Your Team! Carmella

The weather was a little cool, but the trip was exciting and well worth the trip. Excellent narrator, blue whale, dolphins and sea lions were spotted. Great pictures and memories.
