My family of 4 was lucky enough to be the only people on this morning's secret food tour of the mission district, which was awesome. Before coming to San Francisco, I had used tripadvisor to read reviews of the various food tours, and I was torn between this one and another company's North Beach walking tour. A quick phone call to Charlotte (the regional manager of this tour) convinced me to choose this one (she was so enthusiastic and helpful on the phone, that I knew we'd love her), and it was definitely the right choice.
We were lucky enough to have two tour guides (Charlotte, who has been leading tours for quite some time, and Jerroylynn, who was finishing her training). Both Charlotte and Jerrolynn were wonderful people, and we had so much fun chatting with them and getting to know them--after 3 hours, we almost felt like they were part of the family!
We've been on food tours all over the US and in many different countries, and this one not only had great food, but with the wine included was a terrific vale for the money! It was a great combination of yummy eats and cultural information--the walk through mural alley was especially fascinating and poignant. All of the foods were delicious, as others have described--the pork burrito (which was paired with a yummy red blend from Sonoma), pot stickers, clam chowder and garlic bread (paired with a good chardonnay), a deliciously textured cookie (served with port in a beautiful park overlooking the city), and salted caramel ice cream from the famous Bi-right bakery.
All in all, we highly recommend this tour! it's fun for the whole family, you will be very full (don't eat before you come), and you will have learned a lot and have enjoyed your time with the guide.
