A cemetery can be so much more than a place to bury the dead. With a first-class guide, it's a place to learn about the lives of the deceased and how they reflect the society, culture, politics, scandals, quirks and values of their times. This makes history accessible in a way that books and classes cannot match. As so many have, I heartily recommend the tour run by Shannon or by another group of guides affiliated with him. You will learn about Little Gracie and Corinne Lawton among so many other notables.

My 9 girlfriends and I came to Savannah to celebrate my birthday. I had done a lot of research before booking this tour since we only had 2 days in Savannah. There are many choices out there. After reading the reviews regarding Shannon, I made the decision to book it and it was a fantastic choice. Shannon is a true storyist. While some tours have you nodding off at times, the 3 hours went by fast. Shannon was engaging and compelling. The stories of the people were brought to life through his words. I highly recommend this tour. Next time I will definitely book the night time tour!!

This was the final tour of our trip and it was absolutely the best way to end our vacation. Shannon wove everything together that we had seen on our other tours, but even as a stand alone tour, it is a must do. Beginning with a discussion of the role of the cemetery in the life of the period, and ending with a magnificent view of the river, the tour was interesting, thought provoking and entertaining. If you plan to do a Bonaventure tour - and you absolutely should - Shannon's tour is the one you should take.
