Saxman Native Village Ketchikan Highlights & Lumberjack Show

Immerse yourself in living history by visiting Saxman Native Village for a look at the rich native culture of Southeast Alaska combined with the action-packed head-to-head lumberjack competition. At the Great Alaskan Lumberjack Show, you will celebrate a bygone era as you see the logging history come to life with thrilling displays of strength and agility.

At Saxman Native Village, your Tour Host will welcome you and take you to the Beaver Clan House for a traditional performance by the Cape Fox Dancers. After the show, you will visit the Carving Center to watch totem pole carving and paint making. Finally, explore the totem pole park to learn about the figures carved on each pole and their cultural significance.

This tour also includes a scenic drive throughout Downtown Ketchikan. Your Driver will point out significant landmarks and share the rich history of this fishing town. Routes may vary depending on which meeting point you are picked up from.

Wonderful performance by local people, native Indian dance show. Tour guide Nico was giving one of the most interesting and best tours ever. He is mature beyond his age, knows the history in great details and tells the stories in a very captive way. He clearly loves the job, connects with the people and is very proud of the work he does, giving us all such insight into the lives and history of Ketchikan.

I realize some things were beyond anyone’s control such as my ship (NCL Spirit) arriving in Ketchikan at 7 instead of noon. I tried to call the tour group 6 times before noon to get on an earlier tour. I had no other contact info, such as what vehicle to look for, where to meet representatives, how to check in, etc. finally got a call from a rep after we were in line for the show, hoping my mobile ticket would get us in. We pulled out of the line to get an admission ticket from her and later learned we would not be able to go to the Saxman Village due to having to be back to the ship by 4:30. I was assured that they would contact Tripadvisor about the problem for a partial refund. I have not heard from anyone yet, our visit to Ketchikan was not a pleasant or memorable one. The show was fun bUt i would rather have gone to the village.
