I took the Real Alaska Tour. A very entertaining way to spend half a day while in Seward. The tour bus picks up passengers at the rail station and at the cruise ship terminal. The multi activity tour is everything the Seavey's promotion material promises. My primary interest was in the sled dogs. A very young musher provided a great education about their sled dog athletes. A three week old puppy to hold, how great is that? It rained the entire time our tour was at the kennels and on the sled ride. If you are a dog lover, you will enjoy the tour even in the rain, like I did. The lunch was good, but portions small and primarily sandwiches. The climb up to Exit Glacier was more challenging than I anticipated and the guide kept up a brisk pace. Kids and young folks had no problems. There is a flat trail (but it does not get you up close to the Glacier.) If you are middle aged and not used to hiking, the climb is a little daunting, especially in the rain. I struggled to get to the top, but the view was worth the effort. The view of the salmon in the creek was very interesting. The guide provided lots of background about Alaska's efforts to keep the fish population healthy and plentiful. The tour of Seward is a bus ride through downtown, past the Sea Life Center and back to the drop off points near the harbor. One caution if you are making connections back to the train or cruise ship. The tour ran long on the day I took it. The guide was almost an hour late getting people back to their transportation. It gave some of the guests a great deal of anxiety that they would miss their connections. The guide obviously knew the train and the ship tell people to be back extra early knowing some people are always late. But he did not share this info with the passengers and their concern about possibly missing their "rides" ended a pleasant day on a tense note. I was staying in Seward for the night, so it was not a concern for me or some others on the tour. Very glad I signed up for this adventure. It made the day in Seward very memorable.

My family and I experienced the IdidaRide Dog Sleds as part of the Seavey's Real Alaska Tour. The entire day was fantastic! My five-year-old thoroughly enjoyed riding in the dog-pulled "sleds" and spending time with the puppies afterward. I enjoyed learning about the history of the Iditarod and how the dogs' well-being are a top priority. Our tour also included a walk to the magnificent Exit Glacier and a river filled with salmon. Joe, our guide, was extremely knowledgeable about the area and pleasure to spend the day with.

I took a day trip to Seward from Anchorage on the Alaska Railroad Coastal Classic, which is stunning. With about 8 hours in Seward, there are a number of tour options and I chose the "Real Alaska Tour" when I booked by rail tickets. Part of this tour included the Ididaride Sled Dog Tours. A "Real Alaska Tour" bus picked me up from the Seward Railway Station and took my to the locations on the tour. There are 85 hounding, barking dogs, all excited and wanting to be chosen as one of the 16 for the sled (there were three sleds when I was there). When I say a sled, it is a tourist oriented buggy being pulled by the dogs, but that doesn't take away from the experience. The dogs pull you around a forest course and the accompanying guide explains about all things related to mushing which was very interesting. Following the sled ride you have the opportunity to hold husky puppies and there is also a brief session on the equipment used and the strategies taken in the Iditarod sled race which was very interesting. The tour takes an hour or so and make sure you bring your camera.
