My family of four had an incredible experience. We found the whole operation to be extremely well organized, from start to finish. Check in was well communicated and run. They also used the time to answer any questions and proactively address concerns people might have. The crew was friendly and very helpful. I was a little worried about getting seasick and came prepared with medications but we also ended up with extremely calm waters and I had no issues at all. We saw manta rays pretty much the whole time we were out there - sometimes 3 at a time. We brought our own GoPro but you can also rent one. It was an amazing experience.

The crew was great with moderating and explaining facts about the manta rays. We saw a ton of them, up close, which was very lucky since they are not always that active. While this made our adventure fantastic, I believe if they had not been active the crew would have still made it a very interesting event. They were very conscience of safety and making sure all guests were comfortable in the water. The only suggestion I have is to not load up the boards with so many people. This is not specific to Kona Style, as they all do this, but this would set Kona Style apart from the others. My son was being knocked into by the person next to him and at one point was knocked between the 2 boards by her, had his wrist pinched which actually snapped his medic alert bracelet which sunk to the bottom. Again, all the companies have a lot of people and I would encourage Kona Style to set themselves apart and take less people. The experience was one of the most incredible of my life and I would definitely recommend this company - they did a great job! Awesome boat too!

Hello! We REALLY appreciate the fair feedback and the great review! You're right, everyone out there has a similar practice, and it can be uncomfortable if people get distributed improperly. No guest should ever be split between two boards or pinched in any way. We will revisit this with our team. We stack guests close together with intention due to the manta feeding process: more space = more boards and lights which typically causes the plankton to distribute more. Distributed plankton encourage distributed manta rays. We still agree that there is a balance of comfort, safety, and optimal viewing to be maintained! Mahalo for joining us - The KONASTYLE Ohana.

We got lucky! There are lots of boats to choose from. It was a choppy night and our boat still went out. Many canceled so there were only 5 bots out there - instead of 20 to 30 where the mantas can sread themeselves thin among the many boats. At first I thought I was nuts to be jumping off of a rocking boat into the dark sea, but the crew was so professional. I felt totally safe the whole time. I had just grasped the light board, stuck my face in the water, and already a HUGE manta was in view. For 45 minutes straight we saw manta after manta - at one point 5 at a time! After 45 minuts I was exhausted from holding on. One of the guides helped me back on the boat. They served us drinks and cookies. Crew was funny but polite, helpful, and professional the entire time. Highlight of our trip. I highly recommend. We wore face masks inside at checkin and when we were all gathered together. Otherwise we were spread out. Boat was clean.

Aloha, Jennifer! Thank you for providing great detail in this review! You bring up a couple of great points that we would love to highlight. First, we are still very conscious of the spread of germs, and continuously try to maintain a balance of respect, conflicting opinions, and comfort around the subject. Finally, our captain is empowered to make the call to go or cancel a trip at any moment based on the weather and forecasts. Even when it is a little choppy we still often go. The reason is because 30+ guests have made bookings and travel arrangements to be with us, and, as you experienced, it can still make for a great time! A last-minute cancellation can be very frustrating and put a big damper on your vacation. But having an unpleasant experience can be worse; so there is no right answer! We simply need to do our very best and we appreciate everyone's patience and understanding! We're glad everything worked out on this trip, as it usually does!
